The four-day itinerary
- Day 1
Nairobi, then fly to the Mara
Pick-up from Jomo Kenyatta International and transfer to Wilson Airport for the local flight to the Maasai Mara. Your guide meets the plane in an open-sided safari vehicle. Arrive at camp.
- Day 2
Full day in the Mara
Awake at dawn for a morning game drive across the plains. A balloon safari can be arranged as an optional alternative. Back to camp for breakfast, out again in the afternoon.
- Day 3
Game drive or walking safari
An early morning game drive or a walking safari. As the ground warms the predators come out in numbers to hunt.
- Day 4
Departure
One more early morning game drive, back to camp for breakfast, then departure.

Pack into soft bags rather than suitcases. Local flights between Nairobi and the Maasai Mara have a 15 kg limit per person.

Questions we are asked.
Can I drink the water at the lodge?
Drink the bottled water provided — it is in the restaurant, the bar and your tent. Tap water is fine for brushing your teeth.
Is it safe to walk alone at the camp?
You can walk around camp yourself during the day. At night our askaris escort you to and from your tent. Please do not walk unaccompanied after dark.
Does the wildlife come into the lodge?
Yes. We have resident dik-diks on the premises, and other species pass through at night.
Can I catch malaria in the Maasai Mara?
The Maasai Mara is generally high-altitude and not prone to malaria, and each tent has netting. Even so, speak to your doctor about prophylaxis before you travel.
Are there ATMs in the Maasai Mara?
There is no ATM at the lodge and the nearest is a long way off. You can use a credit card for additional purchases at the lodge.
Will I see the Big Five?
Mara North has an abundance of wildlife and you are likely to see lion, elephant and cheetah. Wildlife movement cannot be predicted, and rhino are the hardest of the five to find.
When does the wildebeest migration happen?
Between July and September each year, when the herds cross the crocodile-inhabited Mara River.
Will I see a river crossing?
Crossings can start from late June, but they are unpredictable and never guaranteed.
Is there an internet connection?
There is a connection in the lounge and reception area. See the note on Wi-Fi in the suites below — this is one of the details we are confirming with the lodge.
Is there mobile coverage?
Coverage is weak inside the lodge itself, though there are spots nearby where the signal is strong.
Is there hot water?
Yes — a hot water shower in every tent, along with a double vanity sink and an en-suite bathroom with a flush toilet and bidet.
Where do I keep valuables?
Each tent has a safety deposit box. You set your own code for the duration of your stay.
Can I charge a camera or phone?
Yes. The lodge runs on a solar supply that keeps electricity on 24 hours a day. Charge in your tent, at reception or in the lounge.
How long are the game drives, and how often?
Early morning and late afternoon, usually around two hours each, with exceptions — particularly during the migration.
How long is a walking safari?
A walking safari is on foot and shows you the details you miss from a vehicle — plants, tracks, smaller wildlife.
Are there activities for children?
Yes. Children can try bow and arrow making, tracking butterflies, and throwing spears with the local Maasai.
Can I get a visa on arrival?
Apply before you travel — the process is now completed online, which makes arrival easier.
Do I need travel insurance?
We strongly recommend it, arranged before you travel.
Do I need vaccinations?
Hepatitis and yellow fever vaccines are necessary. Speak to your doctor well in advance and bring your vaccination cards.
How much should I tip?
Tipping varies and can be anything from US$10. There is a tip box at reception, or you can hand it to a staff member directly.
